Hello Arlington Families!

I sincerely hope that you enjoyed a wonderful Summer Break!  The first day of school is soon approaching on Thursday September 7, 2023 at 9 AM, so here is some information.  Remember that the first day for Kindergarten students is September 12, 2023.  Looking at the countdown as I type this message, we have 15 days, 21 hours and 21 minutes until the launch of the 2023-2024 school year!

For parents submitting medications for school use in the nurse’s office.  A school nurse will be here next Monday, August 28 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM to accept and log in your child’s school administered medications and care plans.

We will be hosting our Meet the Teacher event the afternoon of September 6, 2023 from 4-5 PM.  Parents, guardians and students can come to Arlington and find out who their student’s teacher is for the year and meet the teacher in their classroom.  We will also have information and sign-ups about our Wildlife Champions Science/Social Studies Partnership program with the Point Defiance Zoo, our Community in Schools Program and our Beyond The Bell afterschool programs.

In addition, there is a new bus routing system for this year being rolled out by our Transportation Department.  From what I understand, our office will place student addresses in the system and then the Transportation Department will communicate to families where their bus route and stops are.  If you are enrolling a new student at Arlington, please call our Office Secretary, Chris Nordhaug at 253-571-3200 to verify your current address so we can submit that information to the Transportation Office in our school district.

Reminder to Kindergarten parents that this week in Kindergarten Jump Start week where new Kindergarten students come to school to get acquainted with our school and meet our Kindergarten teachers and some other staff from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Tuesday August 22 through Thursday, August 24.  Breakfast and lunch are provided each day.

Preschool dates for Mrs. Togstad’s class:  Open house, Monday September 11 – AM Preschool - 9:30 – 10:15 AM.  PM Preschool – 1:30 – 2:15 PM.  September 18 is the first day of preschool.

The Tacoma Public Schools is launching a new system for staff and parents called Synergy.  This system will assist in reporting progress of students and grades and will also provide families with many more ways for communication and information exchange, including student attendance for parents and teachers.  In order to access this powerful new tool, you must sign up for the APP.  More about this system and how you can sign up for the APP will come out soon.
